4X400 Meter Relay

The 4x400 meter relay is an event in which four people take turns running 400 meters. The first runner must stay in his or her lane the entire 400 meters. The second runner must run to the back stretch and then can move into the inside lane. They also have to pass a baton, but since the race is so long, it is acceptable to spend time carefully passing the baton rather than being disqualified for dropping it.
