Although Arches may appear harsh and unchanging, the desert ecosystem is continually evolving. Weather, climatic shifts and geologic processes continue to shape this environment as they have for millennia.

More recently, human-caused factors such as air, noise and water pollution, as well as introduced species, have had a much greater impact on natural resources world-wide.

The undeveloped landscape of Arches provides an ideal place to study how various environmental factors affect desert ecosystems, and predict what changes might be expected in the future.

Arches National Park is a great piece of natural beauty and effects local people because of the amount of visitors and its climate. It brings more people into Utah.

Basically, it's iron rust. Pure sandstone is white, and water can very easily seep through this rock. When the water meets or carries iron into this rock, the iron rusts and becomes red.

The Entrada sandstone was deposited 300 million years ago, in the Jurassic period.

Arches National park is a great place to go for family hikes, or just go for a drive. The park is open year round, 24 hours a day. The visitor center changes hours depending on the time of year. In the winter they are open 9 AM to 4 PM, early spring they are open 8 AM to 4:30 PM and during the main season they are open 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

You can possess and consume alcohol in Arches National Park, EXCEPT inside public buildings. Note that Utah state law prohibits:

3) Possession or transport of alcohol not purchased within Utah.

4) Intoxication in public, to the point of endangering yourself or others.

Basically, you can buy liquor in Utah and drink it in Arches NP AFTER you park your car, as long as you don't get drunk in public OR create a disturbance while drunk.
