If you already own the Burberry purse, take it to any Burberry department or to the Burberry store and ask staff to authenticate the purse. They'll be glad to do this.

If you don't own the purse and are considering buying it online, consider the price. If it's too good to be true, it's not true. Burberry purses don't loose much value if they're 2nd hand. Burberry doesn't have outlet stores to my knowledge.

The burberry "plaid" is a tartan recognized by the Scottish Tartan Authority (WR1239). But most people confuse the terms tartan and plaid.
