As you may know, the Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant movie is based on the books by Darren Shan. Originally, there was suppose to be one movie for each three books in the saga. Which, to me, is a really dumb idea because there is too much information in each book to combine three into a movie. So, thankfully, there will not be a sequel. At least not by the same production company. But maybe someday someone will start over with the first book, Cirque du Freak, and give it the full attention it deserves by allotting the full 90-120 minutes of the movie to just the first book. One can only hope.

Cirque Du Freak #1 A Living Nightmare is about a boy named "Darren Shan" and a boy named "Steve" who are bored to death at school, when one of Darrens friends named "Alan" brings a mysterious invitation to school called Cirque Du Freak. (TRANSLATION: Circus Of Freaks.) Its a circus where weird people with strange abilities show off their stunts and moves. They all want to go, but Steve only got two tickets. Darren also has a friend named Tommy. Darren, Steve, Alan, and Tommy, make a random bidding to see who gets the tickets. Darren and Steve do. So they leave at night to go to the Cirque Du Freak and they enjoy the show. But one of the performers named "Mr.Crepsley" (A vampire) appears as one of the performers. He brings up with him a spider called "Madam Octa" for the act. After the show Darren decides to steal the spider from Mr.Crepsley. So late at night he sneaks out and takes it. Then later Steve comes over and gets bitten by Madam Octa. Steve is rushed to the hospital. But no cure can save him. Then Darren finds out the only person with the cure was Mr.Crepspley. So he asks to get the serum from Mr.Crepsley to save his friend, but Mr.Crepsley says he will only give him the serum if he becomes his assistant. Darren agrees. Mr.Crepsley turns him into a vampire, then they rush to save Steve. They do save him right before he was about to die. Then Darren almosts bites his sisters neck for blood when he gets home. He doesn't want to put anyone in danger so Mr.Creplsey and Darren faked Darrens own death. With everyone thinking hes dead Mr Crepsley digs through the grave and gets Darren out. Then Steve comes and (He finds out hes a vampire) and swears to Darren that he will someday kill Darren for becoming a vampire. Steve also thought Darren was always faking to be his friend, just to become a vampire. Steve leaves to prepare. Then Mr.Crepsley and Darren walk out into the night preparing for whats to come....

The vampires in Cirque Du Freak have many different powers. First off, they can breathe out a gas that can make humans pass out. They can also flit, which is a form of running in which the world sort of slows down and the vampire speeds up. In short, it's running very fast. They also have healing powers in their spit. If they get a scratch, they lick it and it heals. They are generally stronger and faster than humans, and their fingernails are thicker and sharper.
