Claritin (Loratadine)

Claritin usually has no side effects. It will not make you drowsy like benadryl. Very rarely people are allergic to the medication, symptoms of that would be a rash, swelling, itching, trouble breathing and severe dizziness.

Both are antibiotics, but if both are required, there is no problem in taking those 2 drugs together (and it might be okay to take them). But both should have been prescribed by the same doctor... he should know that he's using 2 antibiotics!

Most antibiotics can be taken concurrently with antacids, with the exception of two classes of drugs. Fluoroquinolones (Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox) and tetracyclines (Sumycin, Doxycycline, Vibramycin, Minocin) can bind with antacids and be less well absorbed , up to 50% in some cases. The best advice when taking these antibiotics is to avoid calcium or iron containing meds OR FOOD (milk, cheese, yogurt, vitamins with iron) and take the antibiotic at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after the food/antacid to allow adequate absorption.

Claritin is a brand name for the medication loratadine. It is a second generation antihistamine.

They are not exactly the same. Loratadine is the active ingredient in Claritin (and its generic form), but the "D" in Claritin D refers to the decongestant, pseudoephedrine... so, Claritin D is a combination of loratadine and pseudoephedrine. It's basically like combining regular Claritin with regular Sudafed. If you have no congestion, you don't need the "D".

An adult can take this medication, but bear in mind that the doses and ingredients of the product are much less than the adult medications. The reasons for that should be obvious. Just get the regular adult medications for this instead.

I asked my pharmacist this very same question and he says you can but by taking the claritin d you may get more anxiety

This would be OK. Naproxen does not interact with tranquilizers. Just remember that naproxen is harsh on the stomach. Have some food before you take it!

My Vet told me 10mg per 22 lbs. For smaller dogs, the childrens dose of 5 mg is fine (and grape flavored!!)

THIS IS TERRIBLE ADVICE ABOVE!! While 10mg per 22lbs is fine for such antihistamines such as diphenhydramine AKA BENADRYL is probably accurate, 10mg per 22lbs of say Loratadine AKA CLARITIN, is the human equivalent of 3x the daily adult dose. This can cause serious liver and kidney damage to your pet after just a few days of dosing. Don't listen to sites like this, because idiots like this person post information that can end up being harmful and expensive. Spend a little money and go pay some one who is trained, IE. your Vet

lorazapam and claritin can be mixed as long as the claritin does not contain any decongestant ie psudophedrine. that's like taking a strong "downer" with a strong "upper"
