The city of Des Moines also offers 53 different city parks. One of the newest additions to Des Moines' park system is the Principal Riverwalk. The Principal Riverwalk is a 1.2 mile recreational trail that connects two sides of the town through the use of pedestrian bridges. During the summer months, many visitors and residents of Des Moines are seen jogging or skating up and down the Riverwalk.
