Members can earn incentives for their efforts in participating in the annual sales of the cookies. The first cookie sales by an individual Girl Scout unit was in December 1917 by the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Over 200 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies are sold each year.
