Graphs

Graphs often collect a set of data in a group of people. There are many kinds of graphs: pie charts (circle charts), bar graphs, line graphs, data tables, pictographs, flow charts, histograms, etc.

Where does the x axes go and where does the y axis go on a histogram?

Typically x axis goes horizontally, incrementing to the right, and y axis goes vertically incrementing up. They cross each other at right angle and that point is typically marked as 0 on each axis.

When do you use a line graph or a multiple line graph?

A line graph is most often used to show the passage of time, and shows the increase and decrease from one point to another. A multiple line graph is used to compare two sets of statistics.

Is a line graph or bar graph more appropriate explain?

A bar graph because its easy and because is very organization than the other line.

What is the difference between LCD and bar graph display?

LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display in which each segment that turns on actually turns black when electricty is applied to that segment. When the power is applied to it the liquid polarizes lining up the molecules and actually blocking the light going through it which is why you would need a light source behind it to see it operate. When the power is turned off to that segment the liquid unpolarizes and lets light through and has the illusion of disappearing. On the other hand the bar graph display operates on a different principle by using LEDS (Light Emitting Diodes) which may be arranged as a row of rectangles is actually a type of semiconductor similar to a transistor. When power is applied to a LED the phosphor in the substrate gives off light. An LCD display can also be shown as a bar graph but each segment will appear black as each segment is activated.

What situation you have you use a pie graph?

A pie graph is used when representing portions of a whole.

What it the horizantle axis for a bar graph?

The horizontal (not horizantle) axis is usually the categories.

What should line graph show?

Whatever information is in the data in a clear and honest way.

How can a line graph help you investigate the relationship between two sets of data?

The general shape of the line indicates whether the relationship is linear, quadratic, polynomial, power, inverse etc. It will also help determine whether the relationship remains the same over the whole domain or changes.

The scatter of the observations about a line gives a measure of the variation in the observations about the values that might be expected from the line graph.

How would you graph -3.4 on a number line graph?

On a number line, the positive numbers extend to the right of zero, and the negative numbers extend to the left of zero. So -3.4 is 3.4 to the left of zero.
