Graphs

Graphs often collect a set of data in a group of people. There are many kinds of graphs: pie charts (circle charts), bar graphs, line graphs, data tables, pictographs, flow charts, histograms, etc.

2,316 Questions

Which of these best describe what a pie chart shows?

Since there is nothing in "these" the answer is none of them.

Is a circle graph used to show changes over time?

No it isn't. Line graphs are used for that. Circle graph show values compared to all of the values.

What is the electrical pie chart?

I believe it is the circle with a horizontal line splitting it in half. Then a vertical line splits the bottom half evenly into quarter circles. In the top half is an E (or V), which represents voltage. Then in lower left is I, representing current. In the lower right is R, representing resistance.

It is an easy way to remember Ohm's Law: If you want to find E (electromotive force) [or V for voltage], then look at the chart: I and R are at the same level, so multiply them: E = I*R.

If you want to find current (I), then look and E is above R, so I = E/R. Same for finding resistance. E is above I, so R = E/I. There is also a Pie chart for Power. See related link (below).

What are the advantages and disadvantges of line graph?

Before going to its advantages and dis advantages , I would like to tell you why line graph is used.

Basically line graph is one of the main tool of Problem Solving techniques.

Line graph is the graphical presentation of the collected data in order to understand , analyze, conclude the data in a most easiest way

Lets take the example of an organization,

Every Organization is constituted of various processes. All the processes are well defined in terms of time, productivity and quality. But are all the processes under control? To get this information , we plot the line graph.

The first step to plot the line graph is to gather the data first of the division/department/issue/ problem of which you want to see the current trend.

Take an another example of data collection

We take the data of a man whose temperature we recorded at different time

@Time 10.00 : Temp: 101 degree Celsius

@Time 11.00 : Temp: 104 degree Celsius

@Time 12.00 : Temp: 100 Degree Celsius

@Time 1.00 : Temp: 98 degree Celsius

and so on

Then Represent this data on the X-Y axis taking time ( always) on x axis and Temperature on Y axis

Advantages of Line Graph:

Since this graph is always represented with respect to time so the graph reader can analyse the status of the activity/Task/ Process/issue/problem/ temperature ( as defined above) @ different time variations. And there where we see the status is out of control ( i.e. at peak or at far bottom), this graph exhibits the need of improvement.

Time may be months, Days, dates, hours, seconds, minutes etc.

Disadvantage of line graph:

Graph only represents the trend. But it doesn't go to the root cause of the identified issue .

As in above example of the collected data of temperature at different time , only indicates the temperature. But doesn't tell how this temperature occurred, the graph doesn't represent.

Can you show a pie graph of main goods produced in Hawaii?

i would say yes! :)because the graph would should the main goods of hawii

When you can use A line graph?

When plotTing data over time, for example: horizontal axis: fish stock and vertical axis: year (1990-2010).

Can a bar graph be horizontally or vertically oriented?

It could be either way just as long as you do the bar graph correctly

When would you use a pie chart rather than a bar chart?

A pie chart can only have one series. So you are usually showing how a block of data is split up, like slices in a pie, and how much each element contributes to the whole lot. So you could have the population of a country and split it up into male and female. The full pie is the whole population and the two slices are how many males and females there are. A company could have its total spending, and in slices show how much goes on different aspects of what they spend it on. Slices can be shown with values or with percentages.

Bar charts are used for more than one series normally, though they can show one series only too. They can be used to compare data. The data does not have to be directly related, which it is often showing separate series of data. So it could be showing students and how much they got in an exam, comparing this against their other exams or against other students.

Why does a pie chart show numbers as percentages?

Because it is a circle. You don't say .25 of your friend's head, you say 25%. It's pretty much just the way things go...

What does a open circle mean of line graph?

The points are spaced according to the value of the number they correspond to; in a number line containing only whole numbers.

If you want to know what the symbol would look like when its going a certain way, it would look like this if you started at 6 and was going to the right the arrow would be pointing > that way, if you were going left the arrow would be < that way... Hope I helped!

Why might you use a vertical bar graph than a horizontal bar graph?

Because there is less dependant vaiables in the data. You also use it if the columns are much more higher.

What information does a pie chart include?

It allocates a slice equivalent to one value from its series. A pie chart can only have one series. Depending on how you set up the chart will determine what other information is included. It can have titles. It can have values on or beside the pie slices, or percentage values. You can have a legend. You can also add your own additional information using text boxes.

What is the shape of an age-sex histogram?

Pichu sucks, and so do their users. Also brendan smells, and is very bad at league of legends

How is a pictograph useful?

If someone don't know how to read they could just look at the pictures.

What does invertal mean in a bar graph?

In a bar graph, you may have more than one data point represented by each bar. The interval is the range of values that are included in a bar. For example, consider the following data set: 1 2 3 4 4 5 5 6 6 6 7 7 9 10 13 15 19 21 22 22 24 25 25 25 25

You could make a bar graph by using intervals of 5. So all data points from 1 to 5 would be in the first bar. The second bar would have the data points from 6-10. The third bar would have data points from 11-15, the fourth bar from 16-20, and the fifth bar from 20-25. The heights of the bars would be as follows:

1-5; 7

6-10; 7

11-15; 3

16-20; 1

21-25: 8
