Graphs

Graphs often collect a set of data in a group of people. There are many kinds of graphs: pie charts (circle charts), bar graphs, line graphs, data tables, pictographs, flow charts, histograms, etc.

What is the difference between Bar chart and a frequency histogram?

In a bar chart,, each column represents a group defined by a categorical variable; and in a histogram, each column represents a group defined by a quantitative variable.

Example, in a histogram of income people earn according to their ages, the columns would represent the ages, For example, the first one might be 18-21, and the next one 22-25 etc and the the the amount made would be on the vertical or y axis.

You could have a bar graph of income vs color of your hair and each bar might be a color So once again, the labels on the bars might be redhead, blond, black hair, etc. and the numbers on the y axis would be the income. The point of the example is that in the bar chart, the columns are groups defined by hair color for example which is a categorical variable. It could just as well be states in the US or many others. And in the histogram, the variables is quantitative. We used age.

They are very similar and the important difference is often subtle at firsts.

Why is that line graph the best kind of graph?

While a line graph can help with interpretation by showing the changes in values as a line, there are times when it is not the best king of graph for a particular situation. That is why other kinds of graphs have been developed.

Is a histogram a graph that represents the cumulative frequencies for the classes in a frequency distribution?

No it is not. The ogive is a graph that represents the cumulative frequencies for the classes in a frequency distribution.

What are the types of smooth-line graph?

1. PICTORIAL GRAPHS. These are the kind found in mathematics and physics textbooks. Their purpose is to simply and clearly illustrate a mathematical relation. No attempt is made to show data points or errors on such a graph.

2. DISPLAY GRAPHS. These present the data from an experiment. They are found in laboratory reports, research journals, and sometimes in textbooks. They show the data points as well as a smooth line representing the mathematical relation.

3. COMPUTATIONAL GRAPHS. These are drawn for the purpose of extracting a numerical result from the data. An example is the calculation of the slope of a straight line graph, or its intercepts.

Who was the inventor of the pie chart?

the pie maker (: Florence Nightingale was the inventor of the PIE CHART in 1857 during the Crimean War.

What is the slope of any horizontal line graph?

y = (constant), like y=1 or y=2

you could write it as y = mx + b where the slope m is zero

Are histograms used in digital cameras?

I know Sony includes them in their older digital cameras. eD

How do you choose between a line graph or a bar graph?

A line graph is the best choice for graphing your data when you're showing quantitative data (numbers) over time. A bar graph is best when you're showing qualitative data and quantitative data at the same time.

A line graph could be: Laps run in a minute.

A bar graph could be: Laps run by Legolas, Gimli, Hermione, and Harry in 5 minutes.

Why are the bars on the histogram touching and not separated?

Your observation is correct for a histogram that involves numbers. The width of each bar indicates the span of that group -- the left-hand edge is the lowest value in the group and the right-hand edge is the highest. A histogram indicates how many counts that fall within the specific boundaries of a bar as indicated by the bar width (the bar height indicates the count). For example, if I decide that the bar width should be one unit each, I construct the histogram with bars one unit wide. However, when the count is zero for some intervals, then there will be a gap of one unit wide. I probably increase my bar width to avoid gaps, so that all bars are touching. Under certain abnormal circumstances will I see gaps.

Now the story is different for bar graphs. They are normally made of categories (for example, apples, pears, and oranges). In this case, the gap between bars is fine.

How many Chinese pictographs are there?

The question does not really have an answer, because some pictographs have been lost, burned, found or copied.

Where would you would use a bar graph instead of a line graph?

A bar graph would be used rather than a line graph to indicate different quantities or numbers of things that are distinct: such as the number of people of different ages in a group.
A line graph is used to show a change in something, such as the growth of a person over some years.
A line graph would also be more appropriate when showing a ratio.

Show you what a double line graph looks like?

I can't really show you on here, but I'll try to explain it. A double line graph is the same as any line graph, it just has two different sets of data, and therefore two different lines to represent that data. If you want an actual picture, I'd just go to Google images and search 'double line graph' and see what you come up with.

What is the y axis on a bar graph?

On a bar graph, the y-axis is the vertical axis, typically located to the left of the data bars.

What can you see on a stem and leaf plot that you cant see on a bar graph?

in a stem and leaf plot you can See the numbers in order from least to greatest but in bar graph you only see the number. Also I'm in 6 Th grade.

How do you find the median in a histogram?

i think you divide the histogram in two, so there are two equal halves. The number in the middle is the median,

Example of a pie graph?

Imagine a pecan pie, with one sixth removed and replaced with a pumpkin pie slice, and an adjacent third removed and replaced with a rhubarb pie slice.

This represents a set of data that is 1/6 pumpkin, 1/3 rhubarb, and 1/2 pecan.

What graph will be better if you are trying to find month to month a bargraph or line graph?

To show continual change from month to month, it would probably be better to use a line graph.

How the evidence from a data table supports a hypothesis?

The evidence from a data table supports a hypotheis is i dont know.

Advantages of double bar graph?

observations from reseaches can be shown simultaneously
