To help fight against environment degradation, including the end of nuclear contamination. It was set up when in 1971 when a boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into north Alaska where the US government was doing underground nuclear tests.

There is no one specific founder of Green Peace. The origins of Green Peace come from the "Don't Make a Wave Committee". The meetings of the committee were hosted by Dorothy and Irving Stowe. Other members of the committee were Marie and Jim Bohlen, Ben and Dorothy Metcalfe, and Bob Hunter. It's first directors were Stowe, Bohlen, and a student named Paul Cote.

Canadian ecologist Bill Darnell came up with the name "Green Peace" and, in order to fit the name on a button, Jim Bohlen's son Paul, made it "Greenpeace".

They represent an environmental organisation that wants to protect and conserve the rainforest so it is not destroyed completely. The believe the actions of the government and companies that exploit the natural ecosystem are destroying protected and endangered animals or plant species. The are concerned that destroying the rainforest will affect the global climate and have devastating consequences.

I don't know for sure, but I was also sent an "offer" from the same company. I am very suspect of the offer for several reasons: 1) they spelled it Greenpace Recruitment (by accident or by design); 2) the recruiter's name is John Smith - way too generic; 3) bad grammar, misused words; and 4) they are asking for information that is already on my resume, which they had already "confirmed."

She was sunk on 10th July 1985 whilst docked in harbour at Auckland, New Zealand, whilst getting ready to monitor French nuclear testing on the Pacific island of Mururoa Atoll. A Portugese photographer, Fernando Pereira, was killed whilst trying to rescue his camera equipment. France later admitted that two of its secret service agents bombed the ship to stop it from it's monitoring work- they were put on trial and sentenced to 10 years in jail for manslaughter, but this was later reduced to two years in exile on a French prison-island. The ship herself was refloated for forensic examination, but deemed irrepairable and was deliberately sunk in shallow water on 12th December 1987 in Matauri Bay near the Cavalli Islands, to serve as a fish sanctuary and as a diver's exploration wreck. Her masts were removed and put on display at the Dargaville Maritime Museum; one of her propellors was also removed and incorporatd into the Rainbow Warrior Memorial on the Matauri Bay headland. Greenpeace's new ship, Rainbow Warrior III, was launched in mid-October 2011.
