Montréal Alouettes have won seven, most recently in 2010. But Montréal AAA won in 1931 and the 1944 Grey Cup winners were the Ste Hyacinthe-Donnacona Navy Combines, a team made up of sailors who were stationed at naval bases in and near Montréal. That makes a total of nine Montréal Grey Cups.

Ten: 1935, 1939, 1941, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1984, 1988, 1990.

As of 2012, the Toronto Argonauts have won 16 Grey Cup games, but only 6 of those have occurred since 1952.

Other Toronto-based teams have won a further 7, but all those occurred before the end of World War II.

As of 2012, Toronto Argonauts have appeared in 22 Grey Cup Games. They rank third in appearances, behind Winnipeg Blue Bombers (24) and Edmonton Eskimos (22), but are clearly first in victories with 16, against only 6 defeats.

BC Lions have won the Grey Cup six times, most recently in 2011.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats won the 1967 Grey Cup over Saskatchewan by a score of 24-1. The Roughriders of the day were a potent offensive team with Ron Lancaster at quarterback, a powerful running back in George Reed and a number of excellent receivers including Hugh Campbell and Al Ford. The game is a testimony to the Hamilton defence who allowed no points except an 87-yard long quick kick single by Al Ford.

The CFL was formed in 1958. Since then Hamilton has lost 11 times, Edmonton and Montréal 8, Saskatchewan 7, Winnipeg and Calgary 6, BC 4, and Toronto 3.

If you include Grey Cup losses before 1958, Saskatchewan lost a further 8 games (total 15), Winnipeg also a further 8 (total 14), Toronto 3 (total 6), Montréal 3 (total 11), Calgary 1 (total 7), and Edmonton 1 (total 9).

If you include two losses by Winnipeg RCAF teams that makes 16 for them. Hamilton Tiger Cats did not lose any Grey Cup games before 1958, but Ticat fans like to count the Grey Cup victories of their predecessor teams the Tigers and the Wildcats, so to be fair one ought to count the three losses by the Tigers and the one by the Wildcats, giving Hamilton a total of 15 like Saskatchewan.

Yes, players get $16,000 if they win the Grey Cup. And losers get $8,000. Not bad for one days work.

In some cases the same teams were in the Grey Cup for three years running, which I would count as two rematches, that is, two games where the teams were the same teams as the year before.

So, how many times has the Grey Cup been between the same two teams who were in it the year before? Over 101 Grey Cup games, 16 times, most recently in 2009-2010.

Only once, by Baltimore Stallions in 1995.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, a team formed from the merger of two teams called the Tigers and the Wildcats, won their first Grey Cup of 8 in 1953. However the Tigers had won 5 before then and the Wildcats, an air force team, won one. A team from Hamilton called the Alerts also won one, making a total of 15 cups won by Hamilton teams. But the Ti-Cats have only won 8.
