One of the most documented rituals associated with Hephaestus is "The Return of Hephaestus" where padded dancers and men dressed as satyrs would accompany chorus leader Dionysus as he escorted the drunk Hephaestus back to Mount Olympus. This ritual was believed to closely follow the myth of the same theme, when the stubborn Hephaestus was given wine by Dionysus and led inebriated back home to release his mother Hera from her imprisoning throne, which the smith god had previously given her as a duplicitous gift. It is also worth noting that an entire festival to Hephaestus (the Hephestia) was once celebrated, and doubtlessly involved rituals to honor the god.

They also had great respect for his skill in forging (he made all of their weapons and armor). His relationship with his first wife Aphrodite was good until she cheated on him with Ares they divorced and he remarried. His relationship with his second wife Athena was perfect their happy marriage was the envy of all the Olympian couples.

Hephaestus is one of the 12 gods of mount Olympus. Meaning he is no minor god. He creates magical weapons for the gods and demigods. He also makes many wonderful designs that the Olympians use.

You might say he's cunning (after all, he did trick his mother Hera into sitting on the chair that wouldn't let her go, and only released her after he was given Aphrodite as his wife; also he caught his wife and her lover Ares, by pretending to leave the house and then throwing a magic net over them).

When Athena was born from Zeus' mind, Hera's jealousy got the better of her. She thought that, if Zeus could make a child just by brains, so could she. The result was Hephaestus, who is told to be the ugliest god there ever was on Mount Olympus.

There are several answers regarding this topic.

(1) Hephaestus was thrown from Olympus by his mother, Hera, when she saw his unsightly face. As he fell, he was crippled by a ledge or was crippled by the landing.

(2) Hephaestus was crippled in his forges. When his mother, Hera, saw him as a cripple, she was disgusted. Repulsed, she threw her son (disowning him in the process) from Olympus.

All of the stories agree on what happens next:

The other Olympians realised what had happened and begged Hephaestus to return and free her. Eveventually, Dionysus (the God of Wine) sought out the spiteful Hephaestus and rendered him drunk. He then brought the unconcious God back to Olympus where he realised his mother.

Before he had a chance to leave, Zeus (his father) asked him to stay and work in his forges again. Hephaestus agreed, but was always quite cold towards Hera who acted the same in return.
