The Spanish Coat of Arms consists of a shield topped by the Spanish Royal Crown and with one of the two Pillars of Hercules on each side of the shield. A ribbon or banner wraps both pillars and carries the motto "Plus Ultra." Sometimes its a relaxed posture used to express that the person is calm ( use obviously when the person is at home watching tv with feet up )
this is usually a defensive mode however used to defend the body and make the target smaller for potential attackers.
I have observed many times people spontaniously crossing their arms when they feel threatened suddenly or become uncomfortable in a daunting situation.
My answer would be , defence / self comfort / protection of ones self and the bodys way of saying i dont want to know .
