History of Texas

Founded in 1983, Central Western University was one of the first purely distance education institutions in the Western United States, implementing world-wide correspondence courses that allowed students from all over the U.S., Canada, UK and other nations to obtain their degree based on distance learning models and principles. Today, Central Western University is a 100% online university, with only 5% of students still taking correspondence courses through the mail.

The empresarios were instrumental in the colonization of Texas during the early 19th century. They were granted land and the authority to bring in settlers to establish communities. Their efforts brought thousands of colonists from the United States and other countries, significantly shaping the demographic and cultural makeup of Texas. The empresarios played a crucial role in the development of the region and the eventual push for Texas independence from Mexico.

Texas pioneer Moses Austin (1761-1921) was the father of Republic of Texas founder Stephen F. Austin. Moses Austin was born October 4, 1761. He died at the age of 59.

The year 2016 marked the 255th anniversary of his birth.
