Well, in everything apart from its size, the Japanese Spitz almost looks identical to its Spitz cousin the Samoyed, with its foxy face, bushy tail held over its back and its thick white topcoat with profuse undercoat, which takes some serious grooming to keep in good healthy condition. This is a blod and lively dog who, despite his size, makes a very good watchdog, and tends to be aloof an reserved with strangers. Once they have made a friend though they will be friends for life. With their owners they are loyal and affectionate, and enjoy lots of play and exercise. Once motivated, the Japanese Spitz can be surprisingluy trainable and excel in obedience and agility. With good socialisation it will be good with children and other animals and will happily get along with all of the family. Training is also need to prevent it from being a very noisy dog who loves the sound of his own voice and wants to make sure everybody else hears it too!
