His transition from television to the Silver Screen began with his starring role in Saturday Night Fever. The movie and his role were a huge commercial success, and helped to popularize disco music around the world. His next roles were starring ones in the movie Grease, with Olivia Newton John, and in Urban Cowboy, which also starred Debra Winger. After Urban Cowboy, his career fell into a slump when he starred in a number of box-office failures.
