What is the hourly pay for a lifeguard?
It all depends on the state you are employed (minimum wage is affected by the state of employment) and the number of years you have been working. I am a third-year lifeguard, and I make $8.05/hour. When I first started out, I was making $6.60/hour, but that was before minimum wage went up in the state of Illinois. Depending on these factors, my guess is that you would end up making $7.00/hour to $8.50/hour.
How many GCSEs do you need take to be a lifeguard?
To become a lifeguard you need at least a+ to become a lifeguard.
What qualifications do you need to be a lifeguard?
Please refer to What do you need to become a lifeguard no degree is required in order to become a lifeguard all that you have to do is get certified in the professorial rescuer and CPR and aed for infants, kids and adults
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Most facilities (per state law) require their lifeguards to be able to present the following documentation proving they have passed the respective courses administered by the American Red Cross:
1. CPR/AED for the professional rescuer.
2. First Aid for the professional rescuer.
3. Professional lifeguard.
Normally, all three certifications can be earned by passing one course. Professional lifeguard certification expires every three (3) years, while CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and First Aid for the professional rescuer expire once every year. Thus, after passing your first "Lifeguarding" class, you will have to take one class each for CPR/AED and First Aid on an annual basis, which usually only takes about one day of review and a test at the end.
Your employer may also require you to submit to a drug test and be in good standing with your past employers (if you have any).
How do you wrap up a lifeguard rescue tube?
wrap the rope by holding you arm out, and bending it at the elbow. Then proceed to wrap the rope around the long part of your forearm
Take the strap at the base where it meets the tube. Pull it directly down until you are just past the area where the tube is cut in. The strap should be flush against the tube. Hold one finger on the strap keeping it tightly against the tube and allow a triangle to form over the finger as you wrap the strap around the tube. Continue until you have approx. a foot of strap left. Tuck the strap on the opposite side of the initial starting point from the direction you wrapped so it will not come undone and leave the "tail" hanging out so you can easily hand the tube but it will not come undone until pulled for quick response.
As a lifeguard when you see someone drowning should you clean the pool?
Best answer ever --> only if there is poop in it.
I assume you mean CLEAR the pool.
That will depend on the situation in and around the pool. If you are alone in that setting, yes, that is probably a very good idea. If you have a few guards with you and the victum won't need the attention of several lifeguards then there's no reason to clear the whole pool.
In a spinal situation, it is MY OPINION (NLS instructors MAY argue this) that the pool should not be cleared until the victum in in some sort of traction or spinal hold. Instead a "pool stand" should be initiated where as the name would suggest, everyone in the pool is asked to stay as still as possible. Makes sense, right? Don't make waves.
Also remember that most lifeguards DON'T have to respond to emergencies constantly and in turn forgo some of their practice. This may lead to hasty decisions that are more reaction than cognitive action. Most "lay" people will respond in this manner, and remember that you're local lifeguard may have only performed one or two rescues in their career.
Could you automatically become a BSA lifeguard if you are American Red Cross Lifeguard certified?
No, one doesn't get two certifications for just one class. I am a BSA aquatics instructor and am also Red Cross certified, and while you have to be seperately certified, by taking the Red Cross lifeguard course, you will have no problem going through the BSA class also. They are very similar, but still have their own tests and requirements.
Three blasts from a lifeguards whistle means?
Where I lifeguard, 3 whistles mean for a 15 minute break due to Florida Law.
In England and Wales this means a lifeguard is about to attempt a rescue (3 whistles, lifeguard goes in)
How much do you get paid at YMCA being a lifeguard?
I just started working at Y and have been a certified lifeguard and swim instructor since I was 15 and now will be 22 in 2 days. I'm fighting to get 10 an hour. The rest of the guards who seem to be starting out and are like 15-17 years old get less than 8 an hour which is ridiculous. When I started working at 15 at a community center I made 8 an hour starting which is generally base pay for lifeguards at most facilities. Camps sometimes tend to pay a little more, especially if you stick with em for a couple years. So overall, the Y really doesn't pay well ...I mean at least in PA lifeguards are getting like a quarter more than minimum wage which is ridiculous when you think that when I was making 8 an hour in 2004 minimum wage hadn't reached 6 bucks an hour yet. They definitely need to increase their pay, and I'd encourage you to look for other aquatics center or camps that are worth your time. Oh if you're into it and will use it , the Y gives you a free membership so maybe that's a perk for not getting paid so well.
Why do lifeguards make people get out of the water when a storm is approaching?

Is lifeguard a proper noun or common noun?
Lifeguard is a common noun. Proper nouns are the unique names of people, places, or things. Common nouns are the words for general things. If a common noun is part of a name, it becomes a proper noun. Pronouns always replace proper and common nouns.
If there is a lifeguard ratio for the size of the pool and is there is a lifeguard to patron ratio?
Different pools and facilities may have different policies but generally there is not. As long as all areas of the pool are being watched it's good. If needed, a lifegaurd can call on an extra guard and on holidays normally there are extra just in case.

The above explanation is a very good answer, except the length of a lifeguard class can vary greatly. The class I took was three months long, and lasted for an hour each day. Two- week courses usually take up about 4 hours of each day. Any class that takes less than two weeks is either going to be incredibly labor- intensive or poor. Most life-guarding classes straight through the American Red Cross do last about 2 weeks, but sometimes classes are set up through various organizations to develop a specialized schedule. The class I took was through my high school and the American Red Cross. Thus, class was held every day from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, right before school started each day. As far as finding a class is concerned, you should check first with your local YMCA or municipal fitness center. If you can't find any programs at any of those locations, contact your local American Red Cross chapter.
