Listerine

Although Listerine is a household name as a mouthwash, it was originally developed as a surgical antiseptic. Joseph Lister developed Listerine for the operating room in 1879. It did not become an over the counter oral care item until 1914.

Really, any mouthwash is safe to use.

In my opinion, no! Most alcohol-based mouthwashes are too harsh for the mouth & gums. Try get your hands on a good TEA TREE or ALOE VERA mouthwash. ALOE DENT is a great one, I use it all the time with great results! It is all natural, with absolutely no nasty ingredients. They make toothpastes too! Should be available in most healthfood stores or at least available to order from your local one. :)

Is Listerine a acid or base?

Mouthwash is a 5.33 on the pH scale, the closer you get to 1 the more acidic, such as Dr-Pepper, or any other cola. However, as you get more to 14 you'll find such things as detergent, and dish soap, all the way to lye. So all in all Mouthwash is slightly acidic, closer to 7 on the pH scale which is considered to be neutral. For example; Pure water is neutral on the pH scale.

Correct Answer:Mouthwash is a base or alkali. When I was doing a science project I ran an experiment trying to find pH of many different substances and when I did mouthwash, I got a pH of 8. Mouthwash has to be alkali because it neutralises the acids produced by bacteria in your mouth.

Do listerine stips help pass a saliva drug test?

Short answer... I have no idea. But I've been looking on the web for products that claim to pass the test. From what I've read, these products such as "ultra wash toxin cleansing mouthwash" stop you from salivating and if you cant salivate then you cant show any traces within your saliva, if you know what I mean. anyhow, the following ingredients are found in one of the mouthwashes that claim to detox your tounge... Water, Glycerin, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, Boron Citrate, Lithium Sulfate, Peppermint, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate I don't know about about the listerine strips, but listerine doesn't contain these ingredients. Further, listerine strips are likely to contain ethanol like the mouthwash and could put you at risk for blood alcohol levels. So, do they work? My guess is unlikely. I hope that helps! Dan

What can I put on a chigger to heal it?

A chigger bite is not actually a chigger in your skin. A chigger bite comes from the chigger larvae inserting digestive enzymes into your skin so it can suck your tissue easier, hence the red welts. You can try diaper cream, listerine mouthwash, alchol and other such home remedies. Make sure you take a warm shower immediately and scrub with soap and water to get the larvae off your skin before trying any remedy. I've also heard NIX (hair lice treatment) works quickly and very well. To prevent chigger bites, spray your clothes and skin with a DEET product before going into any thick brush or near trees and weeds in the spring as that's when they are feeding on anything walking by.

Can you get legally drunk on listerine?

Yes it is possible to get drunk from drinking Listerine. However, it should be noted that mouthwash has been methylated to hinder human ingestion. Methanol is toxic and cannot be properly metabolized by the liver and can cause permanent blindness by damaging the optic nerve.

If you or someone you know is drinking mouthwash in order to get drunk please seek assistance. AA and Alanon are a good start.

Ingredient in Listerine causes black line between teeth?

Black-line stain has a very different origin and requires an alternate method of removal. This stain is calculus-like and forms along the gingival third of the tooth near the gingival margin. Black line stain is seen in patients of all ages, yet is more common in women and in patients with good oral hygiene. There appears to be a natural tendency to forming black line stain as it often reforms despite regular self-care. The quantity of black line stain may be less when plaque biofilm is eticulously removed.3 Black line stain is firmly attached to the teeth and often requires moderate scaling to be removed. from: http://www.dimensionsofdentalhygiene.com/print.asp?id=468

Does Listerine gold kill lice?

The short answer......YES! And here's how! Listerine. Sounds weird but it works miracles an helps prevent reinfestation. Just put your child in the tub and pour it on their head. It will feel really cold but just make them sit there for about 3 minutes. If your interested, remove one nit before application and another afterwards. You will see that the listerine eats away their clear bodies and kills them immediately. For maintenance, fill a spray bottle with half water and half listerine. Spritz their hair and this will act like a repellant because they don't like the mentholated smell. This is a great way to get rid of these pests without dangerous pesticides. I discovered this after my daughter had a serious infestation after a sleepover.

Also know that it may not taste that great or look so pretty after some months have passed since expiration date.

Is alcohol in Listerine bad?

Alcohol has been used for many years by leading oral care manufacturers as a way to "kill the germs" that people at one time associated with bad breath. Research has shown that it is not really the bacteria that we want to kill, but rather what is known as the "volatile sulfur compounds" produced by this bacteria. It's not necessarily bad, but I recommend alcohol-free dental products.
