Metal Detector

Metal detectors are devices used to locate hidden metals. They have a variety of uses from a hobby to medical purposes.

How do you get a cell phone through a metal detector?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I assume the metal detector is there to ensure that passengers/people are not carrying bombs, guns and knives, etc. Therefore, to try to pass through by hiding a mobile phone, could lead to you being taken out of the line and strip searched, if discovered. Usually, mobile phones and metal objects (keys, etc.) are placed in a tray, so the operator can assess whether the objects are harmless and can be let through.

Do braces set off metal detectors in airports?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer 1:

No they don't because braces are made of silver or stainless steel, and that won't set it off. Hope this helped!

Answer 2:

Most metaldetectors can be tuned to react on various different metals and sizes of metal objects.

Braces may set it off, but it is not likly to do this because there is such a small amount of metal in them.

Metaldetectors at airports react on all metals. but they have a threshold of when to beep or not beep.

It depends on factors like securitylevel where this threshold is put.

In times of extra high security level, you may experience the beeping when being cleared for travel at the airports.

It is a myth that silver and stainless steel do not set off metal detectors.

Where can you get a user guide for the zennox GC1006 metal detector?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You could contact the manufacturer if they're still around, or post the query to one of the many excellent metal detectorist forums, or ask somebody from a local metal detecting club, or call a local dealer.

Which inventor created the metal detector used to search for a bullet lodged in the chest of President James Garfield?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

James Garfield. The metal detector worked, but the bullet was not located because the metal bed frame interfered with it.

How do you build a wobble detector?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You will need: two lengths of stiff wire which have been stripped of their sheathing and are strong enough so the wont collapse under their own weight, and two short lengths of wire which are flexible, one small light bulb from a torch with a small base of some kind to which you can attach wires, a suitable torch battery, some plasticine or tape, a board to fix it all to.

Basically a wobble detector completes an electrical circuit acting like a switch to make the light go on. Your task is to create this circuit. Tape two ends of different wires to the battery, one of which is stiff. Make this one into an interesting shape and tape it or use plasticine to let it stand upright. Connect a light bulb to the battery using the flexible wire. Connect one end of the last piece of wire stiff wire which is going to form the wand to the other length of flexible wire. Attach this flexible wire to the light bulb. Make a circular shape with the other end of the stiff wire. Use this shape to pass over the length of the other stiff piece of standing up wire. The light should go on if they touch!!.

Can wrapping a cell phone with foil keep it from going off in metal detectors?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, foil is a metal and will just make it even more noticeable to a metal detector.

Can metal detector find gold ring with diamond?

Does fools gold set off a metal detector?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Since gold is a metal (precious) you can of course detect it with a metal detector. But only if it isn't tuned to ignore gold. since every metal has a different phase response metal detectors with discriminators can be tuned to ignore certain metals.

How can a metal detector detect platinum since it isn't magnetic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

no because platinum has no magnetic field :):):) yeah it sure does Metal detectors work by creating a magnetic field in the coil and then sensing the change in current when a conductor enters that field. Platinum is an excellent conductor and if your metal detector is unable to detect a platinum nugget, try twiddling the sensitivity knob. If it still doesn't work, take it back to the store and exchange it for one that works.

Does silver set off metal detectors?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes of course it is a metal. Most can pick up small pieces of silver. Many friends of mine find silver coins (1964 and befor) even dimes.

Can a metal detector find dinosaur bones?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Metal detectors cannot find gems or diamonds because they are not actually metals. Instead, metal detectors can find silver, gold, titanium, and other precious metals, which can be worth quite a bit.

Can a metal detector detect items under water?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, you can use a metal detector in the rain if.......

The detector is made for underwater use. If the metal detector is made for land use, put a cover over the electronics housing. Many of the top manufacturers sell rain-proof covers. Be sure your headphones are waterproof!

Where can one purchase a gold detector?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Metal detectors by price estimate is the power of these devices to search for minerals in great depth the cheap metal detectors are useless and not suitable for metal detecting on greater depth.

Can a metal detector detect gold?

How do you get the metal detector on the Sims 2 DS?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To get the metal detector, go to the shop that's run by the alien teen, in the corner there is normally something different advertised every month, (Metal detector, arcade games) wait until the metal detector is shown and buy it.

To recharge the metal detector, put some fuel rods into the furnace, and click "Recharge Metal Detector"

For big bucks, metal detect in the desert. The most expensive thing you can find is a mummified alien.

How does flame detector works?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A flame detector is a fire protection device, which detects the flame in the place where it is fixed and issues an alarm thereby alerting nearby people to the danger of fire. In most of the manufacturing companies, furnace flame detector is used in order to detect and prevent fire. Flame detector responds either to radiant energy visible to the human eye or outside the range of human vision. Most flame detectors work either by optical flame detector or flame ionization detector but some of them use combination of both detectors.

Flame detector works at specific ranges, which uses optical sensors to record the incoming radiation at a particular wavelength. The energy radiated from the flame is electromagnetic radiation and it can be identified at various spectral ranges like UV, IR and VIS. Depending upon the sensor used there are number of flame detectors available they are infra red flame detectors, ultra violet flame detector, UV/IR, IR/IR and tripe IR spectral band detector. Flame detector has a cone of vision that defines the effective capability of sensing fire. It is inefficient for slow fires however it responds faster for rapidly developing fire like combustible gas and liquid. It is available in different shape and size. How do Metal detectors discriminate metals?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Metal detectors work by emitting electromagnetic signals outward. When those electromagnetic signals bounce back to the receiver, the machine knows that there is an object in that location and alerts the user.
