In the story a boy name Martin Luna struggles to stay on the positive path of life after the death of his little brother Huero. Martin is also in trouble in school for fighting. a even bigger problem for Martin is at home with Frankie Pacheo the most feared homeboy from his neighborhood is hunting him. Martin also has a girl name Vicky he likes but is afraid to tell her how he really lives his life because he's afraid of what she might think of him. he starts to push Vicky away because he knows Frankie will try to hurt her to mess with him. His nemesis Steve is harassing him and trying to get him kicked out by taunting him and picking on his friends. By the end of the book Frankie and his crew comes and tries to take out Martin. Martin has his brother Huero's bat and uses it as self defense. He defeats Frankie. Stays in school and gets the girl of his dreams.

This book takes place in a low class suburb in Detroit Michigan. It is about a boy named Hakeem Randall who moves from California to Detroit because, his father is sick and they cannot afford there house so, they come live with their uncle.He didnt like living with his uncle and cousin because him and Savon really didnt get along.Hakeem liked playing the guitar,and singing ,but Hakeem had studdering problems,he dont studder when he sings.They didnt get along because hakeem always thought Savon was a follower and he always did the wrong things. Savon is Hakeems cousin. They were very close when they were younger, however they have lost contact. While they're in Detroit Savon and Hakeem don't get along that well and turns up that they got into a fight and everyone thinks Savon is up to no good. When Hakeem got there he wonder why Savon was being mean to him. He also meets this girl next door who he thinks is pretty. He teaches her how to play guitar. It's a way for him to relive stress and have a fun time with her. Savon had been sneaking around came home late at night. So Uncle James asked him to find out what Savon was up to. There had been robberies almost all the stores on Main Street except his father furniture store , the store where Hakeem does all his requirement work at.

There are many conflict in the story , "The Fallen." One of them is that since Martin decided to exclude himself out of the crew that Frankie created, Frankie have been hunting him down to do serious injuries to him. He already busted him in the head once and had to go to the hospital. The doctor told him that one more serious hit will do much damage to his brain. One night when Martin got home, he seen a black bandana tied around his front door knob. That gave him the idea that Frankie is going to hurt him and he needs to be prepared. The reason why Martin decided to get out of the group was because they were going to kill the person who killed his little brother, Huero. He was ready to do it in the beginning but when his mother decided to move and he began attending Bluford High School, he didn't want to kill him anymore because he seen this girl named Vicky and he really liked her. He didn't want her to think anything different about him.

It happen at lunchtime in the crowded school cafeteria. Tyray was hassling Darrell for skipping his weekly payment. To embarrass him. Tyray tipped Darrell's lunch tray. spilling food all over the smaller boys clothes. The trick worked. Kids throughout the cafeteria howled at Darrell's mess. Darrell did something he had never done before. he stood up to tyray in front of everyone. " Tyray, you ain't nothing but a bully. "Darrell called out. " No one in this school likes you. They are just afraid of you. But you know what? I ain't scare me. " He then Demanded that tyray apologize and clean up the mess. Tyray was shocked at the smaller boy's bold words. It was true that Darrell had started acting more confident, especially since he befriended Mr. Mitchell. their nosy English teacher, and joined the bluford wrestling team. But Darrell was still a coward. Tyray never expected him to stand up for himself Careful not to show his surprise, Tyray stepped over to beat Darrell into a pulp right there in front of everyone. But Darrell was fast. The next thing tyray knew, lifted him up, and sent him crashing onto the hard floor of the cafeteria. Tyray tried to cushion the fall with his left arm, but the impact cracked his wrist bone with a loud wet snap. He could not believe the amount of pain he felt. A nonstop knifing ache mingled with the sensation that the inside of his wrist was on fire. Worse than the pain was seeing that kids who once feared him were laughing. some even cheered.
