When you redeem a pawned gun, they have to run a background check on you, just like when you buy the gun for the first time (even though you're not buying it from the pawn shop. It's not their rule, it's a federal thing). If there is a waiting period in your state, then you have to abide by that waiting period. If not, then whatever normal paperwork is required by the Feds (a 4473 form) and any other paperwork, if any, that is required by your state. The pawn shop cannot treat everyone as criminals and it rarely happens, but it does from time to time. The original owner must file a police report when firearm was stolen. There is some paper work and steps but it will be returned.

The reason I ask is since most Pawnshops are required by law to hold the item, whereas another business, Title Loans are not required to hold the vehicle.

Either way, you should have been provided with a contract that would show when the default date is/was.

Also in most States both of these businesses are regulated by state laws and would have to abide by these limits.
