What colleges can you go to become a preschool teacher?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You need a degree in Early Childhood Education. Any university with a school of education (teaching) is likely to offer such a degree. You'd have to investigate individual schools to see which have good programs, but you'd probably be best served by one in your home state. Out-of-state tuition is expensive, and preschool teachers don't make a lot of money.

How do you make a safer non-toxic substitute for plasticine or model clay used by preschool children?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are recipes for home-made "play dough" that are formulated with water, flour and salt. (Sometimes a bit of baking soda or corn starch is included, depending on the recipe.) Certainly the ingredients are non-toxic in small quantities, but with the home-made stuff, the ingredients are "natural" rather than chemically constructed. If one was to do a search using one of the internet search engines and "home made play dough" as an argument, one would get a goodly number of hits.

Other safe ingredients for children to use in modeling clays include beeswax, petroleum jelly, baby oil and lime (calcium carbonate).

Is it normal for your 4-year-old to cry and scream and hold on to you as soon as you get to her preschool door and this is an every day thing for 5 weeks now but she has fun because she tells you?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes it is normal for some children. It depends on your child's personality and also if you have had a close bond. It can be quite traumatic for kids to start even pre-school. I also bet your child wouldn't want to have a sleep-over with a friend. It's just your child's personality and she will get over it in time. Talk to the teacher and keep a close communication level with her. Perhaps she has some ideas as to how your child can meld in with the other kids. It's odd, but when poor mom takes their child to school the first time that child can cry and cry, scream, lay on the ground and kick, but if mom could go back some time later your child would be either coloring in a book or smiling and playing with the other kids. Don't ya just love these little rascals! LOL I was like your daughter. I didn't scream, but cried my eyes out and I was terrified. My mother was a stay-at-home mom and we had a very close relationship so it was tough for me to leave her and I have no doubt hard on my mom too (she probably wanted the rest! LOL) I was lucky to have a fantastic first grade teacher and she let me sit up front with her until I was more comfortable. It all worked out and it's just called, "separation anxiety." Hang in there mom! Good luck Marcy My son has done this for 6 months. I finally understood that he finds it hard to leave behind the safe home where nothing needs to be shared, where all his favourite toys are, where he can nap quietly. The only way the daily transition works well is when I give him about 30 minutes to play at home and then remind him that he gets to see his best friends at pre-school. Mind you, it turned out my son had been bullied for the first 4 or 5 months - and the teachers did not even notice. My son often mentioned the fun things but only came out with the unpleasant events later.

Why use natural materials in preschool?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The idea of using natural materials in preschool is to avoid having the children use supplies that might be harmful to them. Unfortunately, using products that are labeled or advertised as natural does not necessarily mean that you are doing that. It is more effective to find out what ingredients are in the products, which may not be easy or even possible when selecting supplies. Because of that, teaching children to keep them away from their mouths is important. It might help to also explain why they need to be kept away from the mouth: that there might be something in the crayons, markers, etc. that is okay in them, but may not be okay if it was in the child's body.

When is it verbal abuse to preschool children?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cussing, name calling, exaggerating when you tell them they have done something wrong and call them things like lazy, dumb etc when in fact children learn better when you speak slowly and looks them in the face calmly. Like most of us do. When someone yells or call you names you shut down or get angry. Sarcasm and irony is mean as well since small kids haven't learned it yet.
