Areas in Queens New York?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Queens is one of the five boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island). Along with Brooklyn, Queens is located on the western end of Long Island. Brooklyn is directly to the south of Queens. Long Island is the largest island in the continental United States, and is located just east of the bottom of New York State.

Which New York City boroughs are on Long Island?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Long Island is not a borough. Nor is it a county, city, or town. The name "Long Island" is a geographical name, not a political or official one. Long Island, which is part of New York State, is the largest island in the continental United States. The island is divided into four counties: Kings County, Queens County, Nassau County and Suffolk County. Two of these counties -- Kings and Queens -- are also boroughs of New York City.

The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Each borough is also a county in state government: Manhattan is New York County, Brooklyn is Kings County, Staten Island is Richmond County, and the other two have the same names (Queens is Queens County and The Bronx is Bronx County).

The boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens (Kings County and Queens County) are located on the western end of Long Island. The remainder of Long Island consists of the two other counties (Nassau County and Suffolk County) which are part of New York State, but NOT part of New York City.

In Manhattan, 17 to 20 street blocks (north/south blocks) equals a mile, and 3 to 4 avenue blocks (east/west blocks) equals a mile.

I assume the same is true of the other four boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island), but I can't say for certain.

Can a New York county notary notarize a document for the Queens court?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes.. your Notary license after all is issued by the Department of State, State of New York. Just that your signature records are kept at the local county clerk level. Your notary stamp should signify where your are qualified. But if you frequently notarize out of your county you might want to file your signature with that county clerk and have it so stated also on your notary stamp.

from the NYS website

Executive Law

§130. Appointment of notaries public.

The Secretary of State may appoint and commission as many notaries public for the State of New York as in his or her judgment may be deemed best, whose jurisdiction shall be co-extensive with the boundaries of the state.

In the introduction.

Notaries who expect to sign documents regularly in counties other than that of their residence may elect to file a certificate of official character with other New York State county clerks.

What is the origin of the name of the borough 'Queens' in New York?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Queens was named for the Queen Consort of England, Catherine of Braganza. Brooklyn, derived from the Dutch spelling Breukelen (literally "broken land") was renamed Kings County by the English, and is now known by both names. Interestingly, I can find no references to King's or Queen's (possessive) counties. But these two Long Island boroughs of the City of New York were named after the King and Queen.
