A switchblade is a knife made with an assisted blade. The blade us usually assisted with springs. A button is pushed, or a panel is slid, and the blade quickly opens out of the casing. One of the early styles, the Italian stiletto, gained popular media attention in 1950s as the weapon of choice for rebellious figures. The style has changed through the years, and many now resemble Gerber work knives. Despite the stye change, they are still illegal in many areas.
