Low thyroid levels, otherwise known as hypothyroidism, refer to the thyroid not having the ability to produce enough thyroid hormone. The thyroid has a large influence on metabolism and having low levels of this hormone can severely affect your energy levels overall, making you feel incredibly tired and weak, sometimes causing weight gain and oversleeping due to lack of calories being burned. This is the most commonly noticed symptom, but others may also arise, including: dry skin and brittle nails, lack of resistance or tolerance to cold, constipation, lack of concentration or memory retention, and sometimes heavy or irregular menstruation patterns in women.
