The Great Gatsby

Gatsby went to Louisville with the last of his army pay. He did this in an attempt to soak up the memories that he had with Daisy.

The National Biscuit Company is mentioned in "The Great Gatsby" as a symbol of the changing consumer culture of the Roaring Twenties. The company, known today as Nabisco, was a major player in the rise of mass-produced, packaged food products during this time. Its mention in the novel reflects the shift towards modernity and commercialism occurring in American society during the early 20th century.

Daisy appears unsettled and conflicted during dinner, with her speech and actions hinting at her inner turmoil. She mentions feeling torn between Gatsby and Tom, showcasing her indecision and emotional struggle. Daisy's words and behavior expose her internal conflict between following her heart and adhering to societal expectations.

Nick spends most of the night at Gatsby's party talking with Jordan Baker, who is a professional golfer and a close friend of Daisy Buchanan. Jordan and Nick become romantically involved throughout the novel.

In Chapter 3 the guests are beginning to leave the party when they hear a crash. Upon arriving at the scene the observers see the car half off the road with the wheel broken and in a ditch. Owl-eyes is looking around and initially people think he was driving but he tells them that someone else was driving. The driver eventually works his way out of the car. He is disoriented and the author lets the reader know he is drunk by the dialogue the drunk man uses. He is slurring his words and hard to understand.

He makes statements like:

"At first I din' notice we'd stopped."

"Wonder'ff tell me where there's a gas'line station?"

He wants to put the car in reverse and back it out even though the crowd continues to try and make him realize the wheel is no longer attached to the car.

Jordan is upset the day after the accident in The Great Gatsby because she is worried about her reputation and the impact the incident might have on her social standing. She is also concerned about how the accident reflects upon her character and integrity.

Tom referred to Gatsby's car as a "circus wagon," simply to make fun of him and make him look bad. He also refers to Gatsby's actions as "stunts" and his whole operation as a "menagerie."

Jay Gatsby created a persona of wealth and success in order to impress Daisy Buchanan and fit in with the elite social circles of the 1920s. This persona involved extravagant parties, expensive belongings, and a mysterious background that added to his allure and mystique.

Well you see, Sam was really annoyed at Bobby and Bobby told Wilson that killing is funny. So then Daisy drove a car and picked up flowers and Jordan who was drunk on th side of the street. Then, Gatsby (who is dead but came back to life) woke up and smelt the flowers that Daisy had picked. He was in love woth them insead of her! Bobby and Sam were shocked. They had not expected this... DAISY HAD PICKED THE WRONG FLOWERS! Then as a joke, Sam SHAVED his legs and Jordan (who was drunk) did it for him. Then she died. Bobby felt sick so he threw up on the flowers and Gatsby cried. Nick was having a party at his house which was too small and everyone really needed to pee so they peed outside on Gatsby's house, then the house disappeard and everyone at the party died.

THEN EVEYONE DIED. "

Gatsby stays outside of Daisy's window because he is infatuated with her and his love for her drives him to be close to her in any way he can. He wants to be near her and hopes that by being outside her window, he can be closer to her and keep her in his sight.

Fitzgerald describes the guests at Gatsby's parties as being free-spirited, with no formal rules of behavior. They come and go as they please, indulging in excess and decadence without judgment. The parties are known for their glamorous and lively atmosphere where guests drink and dance until the early hours of the morning.

George Wilson believes that Myrtle was killed by a wealthy man driving a yellow car, as he found a dog leash with a yellow car that matches the description of Tom Buchanan's car in her possession. He is convinced that this man is Myrtle's lover.

Gatsby told Nick that Daisy's voice is full of money meaning she only cares about the materialistic world. And because of Gatsby 'love' of (preoccupation with) Daisy he is also trapped in the materialistic world.

Klipspringer plays "Ain't We Got Fun" on the piano in F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby." This song reflects the shallow and frivolous atmosphere of the parties thrown by Gatsby in the book.

Tom Buchanan comes from a wealthy old-money family and does not work, while Daisy Buchanan is a housewife who does not have a job outside of managing their home. They rely on their family wealth to sustain their lifestyle.

Gatsby received a significant inheritance from Dan Cody, a wealthy mentor who took him under his wing when Gatsby was young. Cody taught Gatsby about wealth, luxury, and the upper-class lifestyle, shaping Gatsby's aspirations and beliefs about success.

During "The Great Gatsby," the youth enjoyed activities such as dancing, attending parties, and participating in social gatherings at places like Gatsby's mansion. They also engaged in sports like tennis and golf, and enjoyed driving fast cars. Additionally, they pursued romantic relationships and sought out new experiences in the roaring 1920s.

It starts on page 57 about the second full paragraph in the middle. "At her ifrst big golf tournament there was a row that nearly reached the newspapers- a suggestion that she had moved her ball from a bad lie in the semil-final round. The thing approached the proportions of a scandal- thne died away. Acaddy retracted his statement, and the only other witness admitted that he might have been mistaken. The incident and the name had remained together in my mind" (Fitzgerald 57).

Nick was skeptical of Gatsby's story about his background because it seemed too grand and exaggerated. Gatsby's mysterious persona and extravagant lifestyle also added to Nick's doubt about the truthfulness of his story. Additionally, Gatsby's reluctance to share specific details raised suspicion about the authenticity of his background.

As Nick sets the moral tone of the novel, through his narration, it is clear that at times he disapproves of them both. He sees Tom as bigoted, and of course unfaithful. It is more difficult to interpret his views on Daisy his cousin. Certainly he understands her to be entrancing but he also sees her carelessness, blindness, bad parenting, and flakiness too. In the end I am sure Nick saw them both as unlikable and responsible for Gatsby's death.
