In 2012, the book was turned into a film starring Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and Emma Watson. In the story, Charlie (Logan Lerman) learns how to live life in high school after making his first two friends: seniors Sam and Patrick. Both the book and the movie cover controversial topics such as drugs, alcohol, sexuality, mental illness and general teenage awkwardness.
