So her mom pulled out a gun from the closet, which she was trying to shoot him, but he slapped it out of her hand, and it dropped on the floor. Now Lilly was in the closet the whole time and she was only 4 years old. When she found the gun she just picked it up and accidentaly fired and it hit her mom. Later in the chapter, Lilly confesses it to August who she latter meets, and tells her that she was trying to protect her mom and tried to shoot her father, but it misses and hits her mother.
