The 4th hokage is Minato Namikaze, the father of Naruto Uzumaki, whose last name is shared with his mother and not his dad. He used a forbidden jutsu to seal the rampaging fox demon in his son, though he only sealed half of its power in the seal, with the rest being free to use by his son, Naruto. The seal key that Minato gave Jaraiya was the 5 prong seal that can open or close naruto's control of the 9 tailed fox's immeasurable chakra. Uchiha Madara was said to have summoned the fox to attack Konoha to take revenge. Madara Uchiha was the founder of the Uchihas, with sasuke being the only one to ever become as sinister as him, as said by the fox himself.

Minato was known as the Yellow Flash of Konoha, with konoha being short for the Japanese word for Konogakure, the Japanese word for the hidden leaf village, where all of the goings-on in the naruto universe is centrally located.

This nickname came from his Flying Thunder God technique that used seals and kunai and such to instantly warp from wherever he was to wherever the object was, which usually ended with the target being killed instantly, since Minato was the Zeus of the 3rd Great Ninja War, killing with lighting . . . . fast moves that is! He killed so many in the 3rd Great Ninja War that the mere sight of him caused mass hysteria and retreat.

He was chosen to be the 4th hokage over Orochimaru, the evil student/sannin of the 3rd hokage, since Minato was the student of Jaraiya, the toad sage and a sannin as well.

Minato created his own move, the rasengan, with required absolutely no seals, which is really sweet as most moves are jutsus and the definition of jutsu is a move activated by a seal, making this invention really special. Unfortunately, he died before he had time to perfect it.

He planned on perfecting it by mixing it perfectly with the wind element, which his son, Naruto Uzumaki, would later do, once his master Jaraiya taught the move to him, trained him and passed him off to kakashi, who once was taught the move himself (though kakashi was not fit for it, choosing chidori over the rasengan), to polish it up.
