Who was involved in the Trojan war and how did this begin the war?
The Trojan War started at the sea nymph Thetis and King Pelias's wedding. They had decided to invite all of the Greek gods and goddesses, except Eris, the goddess of spite. Eris got mad and placed a golden apple with the words "for the fairest" on it, and sent it to the reception. Three goddesses, Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera, saw it, and each claimed it as their own. They started bickering, and finally asked Zeus to judge their beauty. Zeus, the king of the gods, was married to Hera, so he didn't want to get her mad at him, but he knew that if he picked her, Aphrodite and Athena would blame him for picking Hera just because they were married. So, Zeus told the tree goddesses to go to the shepherd Paris. They went, and Paris couldn't decide. He knew that it was dangerous to have a goddess mad at him, and two would be fatal. So the goddesses offered him rewards. Hera's was high honors by the people of his land, Athena's was success in war, and Aphrodite's was the love of the most beautiful woman to be found. Paris picked Aphrodite's offer. Years later, he found out that he was actually the prince of Troy, abandoned because he was destined to bring tragedy to his city. His father, the king of Troy, sent him on a mission to retrieve Paris's sister from a Grecian King, who was holding her captive. On the way, Aphrodite blew Paris's ship off coarse, and he landed in Sparta, Greece. The king, Menelaus, invited Paris into his palace, and Paris saw his wife, Helen. He immediately fell in love. She saw him shortly after, and she fell in love as well. a week or two later, when Menelaus was gone, they ran away to Troy. Menelaus was so mad that he declared war on Troy.
