There are a number of unofficial ways. Counterfeiters have had difficulty copying thepaper and ink, so if you see cloth threads in the paper, it is likely real, and if you rub it in a smudge on plain white paper and it leaves behind ink it is likely real. Look at the lines on the bill as well with a magnifying glass too; if the lines are clean and unbroken, it is likely real. A bank can check the bill for you too.

Yes, 1981 100 dollar bills are still considered legal tender and can be used in circulation. However, they may be less commonly seen due to their age, as newer designs of the 100 dollar bill have been introduced since then. It's always a good idea to check with banks or businesses to ensure they will accept older bills.

The last red-seal $10 bills were large-size United States Notes issued in 1923. They're about 30% larger than current US bills. If that's what you have you should check with a certified dealer or appraiser because such a bill could be worth anywhere from $450 in low-grade condition to over $3500 uncirculated.

Circulation of high-denomination bills was never formally halted, but occurred in stages through a "soft" withdrawal.

Printing of $500, $1000, $5000 and $10,000 bills was suspended in 1945 due to low use (all those bills carried a 1934 series date, though). Until 1969 they were handled like any other denomination - it was possible to request them from a bank, you could deposit them, spend them, etc. However the government was increasingly concerned that high-value bills were being used by criminals to easily hide large sums of money. In July of that year President Nixon issued an order that banks could no longer supply high-value bills, and any that were deposited had to be held and returned to the Treasury.

Interestingly, the government never ordered a recall of high-value bills so any that were in circulation at that time remained in use until they were deposited. Over the years the number dropped to where they're effectively no longer in circulation. Technically they're are still legal tender but it wouldn't make much sense to spend them because they're worth more to collectors.

Every few years there are proposals to re-introduce larger bills, in part because the purchasing power of a $100 bill is so much less than it was in 1969. But given the widespread use of electronic payments and concerns about terrorist funding, it's unlikely that the US will make bills larger than $100 any time in the near future.

Despite its series date, your bill actually was printed some time during the period 1915-1919. Houston B. Teehee (yes, his real name) was the US Register of the Treasury during those years.

$2 bills dated 1976 and later are uncommon but not rare. Hundreds of millions have been printed so they can't be considered scarce, but that huge number is still only less than 1% of all bills in circulation so they don't show up in change very often. Any large bank should be able to get you all that you want.

Even bills dated 1953 and 1963 aren't considered to be rare, for the same reasons. You have to go all the way back to the 1928 series before you start running into any truly valuable "deuces".

Without seeing the bill it's difficult to estimate a value, but depending on a number of factors its value could be anywhere from $100 to several hundred. Those factors include whether the serial numbers are completely missing or printed on the back side of the bill, how old the bill is, its condition, and so on. You should have the bill examined in person by an expert in currency errors.

All current circulation bills are Federal Reserve Notes so depending on the dates you're interested in you can simply look in your wallet.

Older dates of Federal Reserve Notes (before 1999 depending on denomination) and all silver certificates are pretty much out of circulation though, so you'd need to look on eBay, go to a coin and currency show, or visit a dealer.
