It depends on when the bill was printed. Before bills were standardized in 1928, dates could be just about anywhere on the front so finding them is pretty much a matter of searching the design. In many cases the dates were shown in very tiny type so finding them can be challenging.

For bills dated 1928 and later, the date position is at the bottom right of the bill, at roughly the 5:00 position with respect to the oval frame around Washington's portrait. The date should be preceded by either "SERIES" or "SERIES OF"; in addition it may or may not have a small letter corresponding to the signature combination (Treasury Secretary + U.S. Treasurer).

It depends on the denominations used. If you can find old $10,000 bills (that are no longer made), it looks like 100 of them. Otherwise you can imagine a wheelbarrow full of 10,000 $100 bills or a wagon with 200,000 $5 bills or a railroad car with 100 million pennies ...

The US didn't print any 1926-dated bills. The closest date would be 1928.

All US bills carry the signatures of two officials, the Secretary of the Treasury and the United States Treasurer. Many different people have served in those positions so depending on when a bill was printed it will carry different signatures. If you look at the bills in your wallet you should find many examples of different signers.

It can be difficult to associate a bill's printing date with either the "series date" or signature combination shown on the front because the rules surrounding the selection of dates aren't hard and fast.

Up till 1974, a new series date was put on a bill only when there was a significant design change. Usually the first date in a series was "plain"; i.e. the series date appeared by itself. When a new Secretary of the Treasury or Treasurer took office, a small letter would be placed by the date, starting with "A", then "B", and so on. (That practice in itself confuses many people because it means "A" bills are the second set in a series, "B" bills are the third, and so on).

During the mid-20th century there was significant political inertia and outright resistance towards changing bills' designs. That resulted in absurdities such as $1 bills printed in the early 1960s carrying a 1935 date simply because the design was the same. Finally in 1974 the Treasury started modifying the practice so that a new series date would be used not only when a new design was adopted but also when a new Secretary of the Treasury took office. Letters would be added only when a new Treasurer was appointed. Series dates now change much more frequently and letters, which once ran as high as G or H, now usually end at A or B - if one is used at all.

If the bearer can redeem the note into silver metal, I would guess it is worth the going price of silver on the day the bearer exchanges it or sells the metal.

No US $2 bills were printed with yellow seals. However, up till 1963 most had red seals and in the 19th century some had brown seals. Either of these could have changed color due to age or exposure to chemicals.

More information is needed. Please post a new question with the bill's date and whether it's from a private bank or is a US-issued bill. You don't need to include its serial number though because that won't help to ID it.

1922 $10 bills, like modern $10 bills, had a portrait of Alexander Hamilton. He was never president but was the first Secretary of the Treasury.

The only $5 bills redeemable in gold were National Gold Bank Notes printed in the early 1870s.

If that's what you have, it should be examined in person by a reputable currency dealer because these items are considered to be moderately rare. Values as of 02/2011 range from $1000 for a very worn specimen to nearly $9,000 for one that's in nearly new condition.

Bills printed before 1990 have essentially no high-tech anticounterfeiting features. Things like watermarks, security strips, and so on weren't introduced until the series that started in that decade. About the best you can do at home would be the following:

> Look for tiny blue and red fibers embedded in the paper. These are tiny bits of very fine thread that were mixed in with the paper because they're difficult for a counterfeiter to reproduce.

> Check the teeth (points) around the Treasury Seal. They should be sharp and evenly spaced.

> Look closely at the engraving of Ben Franklin's face. Again, the lines should be sharp and clear. The image should have a certain amount of apparent depth to it.

In circulated condition, it's still worth $1. If it's crisp and clean, in mint condition, it could go for upwards of $1.50.

No such (US) bill exists. Silver certificates were last issued in 1964, and the $500 bill was last issued with the series of 1934A. Furthermore, the highest denomination silver certificate issued was $10, higher denomination certificates were either United States Notes, Federal Reserve Notes or Gold Certificates.

Please don't assume that every old bill is a silver certificate. The banner across its top and the green seal indicate it's a Federal Reserve Note, the same type of paper money used today.

Well, isn't that just a happy little question! The value of a twenty dollar bill from 1983 can vary depending on its condition and any unique characteristics it may have. I recommend checking with a currency expert or collector to get a more precise estimate. Just remember, every bill has its own story and beauty, no matter its monetary value.

The seal color is actually yellow but has darkened with age. Yellow-seal bills were printed for use by troops in North Africa during WWII. There's more information at the question

No. The highest series letter is D. You're probably seeing either the Federal Reserve District letter or a plate-position indicator.
