How many miles does a basketball player run to get in shape?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Its not really easy to determine exactly how many miles run, due to missed shots and unknown how many times ran up and down the court. Also, generally not all players play the whole game. So, we will just use estimated number.

if you use a score of 90-80 for an average game. that's approx. 45trips down the floor. Now, the players do not make every shot so using a shooting average of 50% that makes approx 90 trip down the floor.

the length of an NBA court is 94 feet.

94 ft x 90 trips = 8460 feet

there are 5280 ft in a mile

8460 / 5280 = 1.602 miles

No woman has ever been a head coach of an NCAA men's basketball team, but Bernadette Mattox was the first female bench coach when she served as an assistant to Rick Pitino's Kentucky Wildcats from 1990 through 1994. Kerri-Ann McTiernan's head coaching stint at Brooklyn Kingsborough Community College makes her the only female to be the head coach of a men's college basketball team at any level.

Teresa Lawrence Phillips actually coached the Tennessee State men's basketball team for one game when the regular coach had been suspended back in February of 2003.

What does it mean when a WNBA player is waived?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When a player is waived, it means that the player's team has given up their right to retain that player.

Her team still has to pay her contract until another team either claims that contract (in which case the claiming team assumes the contract) or negotiates a new contract after the player has "cleared waivers"

To clear waivers means that no other team has submitted a claim to that player's contract. Different professional sports leagues have different waiver rules.

Does the WNBA use a smaller basketball than the NBA?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The assumption is that since women are generally smaller and weaker than men and have smaller hands, they need a smaller and lighter ball. Since the diameter of the rim is the same for men and women, the degree of difficulty in scoring a goal is not as great for the women. This is why many purists do not grant validity to overall NCAA "women versus men" records and achievements. When Chamique Holdsclaw was accorded the distinction of being the all-time scorer at the University of Tennessee (passing Alan Houston), many people felt that this honour was not deserved since she had a distinct advantage over Houston by using a smaller ball and thereby a larger target. The only way to truly "level the playing field" would be to use slightly smaller rims for the women, making the degree of difficulty comparable to that of the men.

What degree do you need to play in the WNBA?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

None is required if you have played at least two years in a foreign league and are 22 years of age.But that mostly only applies to foreign born players. They like for most players to have four years of college, or have used all of their college credits up.
