User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As the new Yankees stadium was being constructed... Red Sox fan Gino Castagnoli infiltrated the ranks of one of the crews pouring concrete for the new stadium... and told friends that he'd planted David Ortiz's jersey in the cement outside the visitors' clubhouse...When the Yankees learned of the jersey stunt... they brought out a jackhammer and dug it up. It cost $45,000 to recover the jersey...which was later sold for $175,000 with proceeds going to the Jimmy Fund...

What is the price of a hot dog at Yankee Stadium?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's the old thing of 'supply' and 'demand'. The demand is always high, and people are not apt to leave the stadium to eat, so they can literally charge what they want. People will pay it ... or starve ... Same is true with the $5 charge for 6 ounces of soda pop.

Who hit home runs at Yankee stadium dodger stadium and the polo grounds?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Great trivia question. I'm surprised that Willie Mays is not on this list. Mays never hit a HR at Yankee Stadium ('51 & '62 WS). I do know that each of the following ballplayers have hit home runs at Yankees Stadium in a World Series game (Robinson regular season). I am sure that Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Duke Snider, all hit home runs at Shea, the Polo Ground, and Ebbets Feild. Frank Robinson hit 67 HR's in 1956 & 1957 for Cincinatti. I'm sure at least one at each the Polo Grounds and Ebbets field. He also hit a home run at Shea in the 1969 World Series. (last minute scratch Gil Hodges. Hit 9 home runs for the Mets in 1962 but Shea didn't open until 1964)

This is only a guess. Correct me if I'm wrong. Here are the eight players that I think hit Home Runs at Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds, Yankees Stadium, and Shea Stadium # Hank Aaron # Eddie Mathews # Duke Snider # Frank Robinson # Ken Boyer # Charlie Neal # Bill Mazeroski # Ed Bailey,

When was Babe Ruth's last game at Yankee Stadium?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You're mixing up two questions here. Babe Ruth hit his 712th, 713th, and 714th home runs on May 30,1935, when he was playing for the Boston Braves (his third and last team.) He retired after that game and the Braves finished last with a record of 38-115. He pretty much stopped pitching after he went to New York, pitching in a total of five games for the Yankees--three of them in his first two years; he pitched one game in 1930 and one in 1933, both of them complete-game wins. He never pitched for the Braves.

How far is right field from center field in the new Yankee Stadium?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

the right field wall at fenway park is tricky...which is why most newcomers have a hard time playing that position...at the deepest part - it's 380 feet from home plate and along the line it measures 302 feet - I'm pretty sure that's up to pesky's pole - which allows for the short home run

Did anyone ever hit a home run out of the old Yankee Stadium?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. On May 22, 1963 Mickey Mantle came close to hitting a fair ball out of Yankee Stadium. Mantle hit a home run off the right field upper façade in the "old Stadium". The façade was 108 feet high and the distance from home plate was 374 feet. The ball was still rising when it hit. Mickey thought it was the hardest ball he had ever hit.

When I was a kid I remember hearing about Johnny Ellis, a catcher for the Yankees doing it in batting practice. I don't know how true this is because no body talks about.
