From what I have seen, it is a sign of stupidity as somebody goes to hit btw (by the way). This can come from someone who is a n00b at typing but it usually comes from trolls who impersonate n00bs

Byr doesn't actually mean any-thing. It is possible they are saying "bye" but hit the r key by mistake.
