Food adulteration is a legal term that covers any food that is
not legal to be sold (as defined by federal or state government
rules). Adulteration can be a result of bacterial contamination,
unsafe levels of toic substances like arsenic or pesticides or
because it contains foreign or unsanitary material (glass, sand,
parts of insects). Food adulteration can also be a result of labels
that have wrong or misleading information, or because the food or
food product is not legally allowed in the U.S.
