Akrotiri and Dhekelia are two British Overseas Territories. They
are both located on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. After
Cyprus became independent from British rule, they were still
accepted to own a small part of the country's land due to its
strategic military position. Akrotiri is at a cape in the island's
south, near Limassol. Dhekelia is on a bay in the south-east of
Cyprus, between Larnaca and Famagusta. Together, they make up for
3% of the island's area.
