According to Marty Godbey in her excellent book, "Crowe On The
Banjo: The Music Life of J.D. Crowe," Gene Johnson was a member of
the New South from the summer of 1979 until early 1981. Gene is not
to be confused with Terry Johnson (also a mandolin player) who
worked with Crowe during 1985-1990.
