Yes they are, as Captain Marvel has been published from May 1968 to the present. This makes them 44 years old, and part of the golden age of comics.

1938 was the begining of the Golden age of comic books and before that superhero comics didn't even really exist, and in 1932 the first comic bok that wasn't just a reprint of newspaper comics appeared, so I'd say yes, and I have to say that DC was responsible for this even though Marvel is my favorite.
