Tom Field replaced retiring President Jerrold Tuft approximately 1990 and

was President of the Schlage Lock Division until the 2004 split into Residential

and Commercial and the San Francisco Headquarters was relocated to

Colorado Springs.

In my personal opinion as a locksmith, Schlage is a better lock. The common residential locks have 5 spaces, although some have 6. Both manufactures have each. Schlage has tighter tolerances between the cylinder and plug, and 10 depths as opposed to Kwikset with 6.

Schlage was created in 1920.

Schlage is a very good name brand for doorknobs and especially for dead bolts. They are a very reliable company and you can find them at most home improvement warehouses.
