Math and Arithmetic
Math is the study of abstractions. Math allows us to isolate one or a few features such as the number, shape or direction of some kind of object. Then we can study what can be learned about the behavior of those features while ignoring everything else about the object.
Trail of Tears
After the Indian Removal Act of 1830, many native American tribes were forced into relocation to Indian Territories. The travel from their homeland was harsh, and thousands died. The journeys made by these tribes became known as The Trail of Tears. In 1987, the route taken by 15,000 Cherokees was made a National Historic Trail. It spans across nine states.
The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena is all part of science. Nothing is immune to the scientific process: from charm quarks that haven't existed naturally since the beginning of time to Pluto, recently demoted from planet to dwarf planet. History, Politics & Society
'History, Politics and Society' deals with the affairs of human beings. The categories overlap to a degree: 'History' describes changes in those affairs, and encompasses the other two; 'Politics' is about how people govern themselves; and 'Society' is about how people organize and conduct their lives. Questions here range from ancient history to history-in-the-making, political views to decisions of lawmakers, and present and past societies and how people relate to each other within their societies.
The use of words to evoke memories and emotions has long been an endeavor of the human race. The styles are wide and varied, some requiring rigid guidelines, rhyming couplets and specific syllable counts will others refuse to be constrained and thrive on free form and ignore rules of any type.
Native American History
There were many indigenous people already living on the entire North American continent when the first European explorers arrived. They had long ago divided into several distinct groups, each with its own customs and specific way of life. Questions about these Native peoples and their interaction with the early explorers - and, later, with the Colonists - belong in this category.
A truly healthy person has a sound body and mind that is free of disease and infirmity. Healthy living includes taking the steps needed to optimize one's chances of surviving and thriving, like eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Literature includes written works of an imaginative, journalistic or scholarly nature. Language is a system of spoken and written symbols by means of which people can communicate with each other. We invite you to ask and answer questions about languages and literature; including pronunciation, grammar, definitions, examples, acronyms, abbreviations, etc.
Animals enrich our lives in so many different ways. The Animal Life category is for questions and answers about animals of all types, including pets, sea life, and farm animals. You can ask questions or find information regarding animals, their history, care, health issues, breeding, and behavior.
