Why you shouldn't throw trash in the ocean?

"When garbage is thrown in the ocean it affects more than just the water." says Dr.Carson Fish, birds, and other marine life are affected in many ways. They often mistake garbage for food and are either poisoned or choked. Purple Petteca fish are now extinct due to trash.

I was doing a project on trash in the ocean and used this question. I tried to look up the fish (Purple Petteca) and there is no such thing as a Purple Petteca. Plus, there is no citation and no first name for the supposed "Dr. Carson". So in a conclusion, I WOULD LIKE TO CALL THE REPLY ABOVE A HOAX!

Trash affects the ocean in a quantity of ways. Trash can kill many animals, or even a large amount of a species. Animals can be strangled or suffocated by the trash. If a large amount of a species if affected, it can be very dangerous to the ecosystem. If one species begins to fall in population, many other species may be affected because of the food web. Organisms in an ecosystem are connected to one another. Some species may overpopulate because less organisms are preying on them and preventing this from happening. A whole species may die. This cycle continues to go on. The trash also may release chemicals into the water that may not only harm the creatures of the ocean, but humans. People may eventually drink the polluted water along with the chemicals that were released from the trash. We may eat the infected animal. This is not good for our health, and could possibly hurt us. This is why it is critical to be careful of where we throw our trash , as it affects the marine life and may in turn affect us.
