declaration of independance
Actually....
I'm taking NovaNet and it says it's the Treaty of Paris....
so I'm guessing Treaty of Paris is correct.
1783 or 1784 depending on how you view historical events.
Although the Declaration of Indepedence was signed in 1776, the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) between the 13 British Colonies under the rule of King George III went on for several years. The war ended at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, at which British General Lord Cornwallis was forced to surrender, defeated in large part by the arrival of the French Navy and land forces which prevented British forces from escaping to the sea, only to return at a later date.
Although the Battle of Yorktown ended with Cornwallis' surrender, the war did not officially end until the Treaty of Paris. Signed on September 3, 1783, and approved by the
Congress of the Confederation (successor of the Continental Congress and precursor to the U.S. Congress) on January 14, 1784, the Treaty of Paris formally recognized the former British Colonies as the new and independent United States of America.
So although the Treaty was signed in 1783, the fact that it wasn't ratified until 1784 means that Independence wasn't "legally" gained until then.
1773 was the year the 13 colonies delared their Independence.
1776
I believe that was on 1776.
