Why should you visit Central Park?

It's the only place in Manhattan where you can really get a touch of nature. People from rural areas always laugh when New Yorkers say that, because Central Park is very cultivated. It's not a forest. But it's the biggest park in Manhattan -- two and a half miles long and half a mile wide -- and there are actually places, deep in the center of it, where you can completely surround yourself with foliage. The center of it is the only place in Manhattan you can go and not be able to see buildings in the background. It gives the illusion that you are actually in the woods. Which makes it very important to the city's residents.

There is a Central Park in New York beacuse in 1811 people wanted to get away from the noises of the city. People mainly went to cemeteries to get away from the noise and chaotic life. In 1844,William Cullen Bryant and Andrew Jackson Downing began to publicize the fact that the city needed a public park. In 1853 the NY legislature agreed upon 700 acre area for the creation of the park.
