The legislative urge was to choose a native flower that no other state had selected. It is attractive, but not as prevalent as the Indian Paintbrush and other contenders, it was selected and the state has gone through great effort to feature it at state entry points.

School children voted for the columbine to be Colorado's state flower. The blue violet, white and yellow flower was discovered on Pike's Peak in 1820. The blue represents the sky, the white represents the snow and the gold represent the history of gold mining.

What is the state flower of Colordo?

The State flower of Colorado is the Columbine. Look it up on the web. It is one of the most beautiful flowers you'll ever see. It only grows in the summer in the mountains just below and just above timberline. Timberline in Colorado averages 11,500 ft above sea level. While most all Columbine have large blue petals, I have also found samll fields of Columbine with pure white petals. They are very rare.

What is colorados state bird and flower?

Unofficial Nomination:The Rocky Ford Cantaloupe. (At least it should be.)The official records indicate that no official fruit exists and that may be because the varieties and quality available in different areas of the state is rivaled only by California. California Citrus has a special niche market as does the Santa Rosa Plum, however even with Colorado's precious water resources sent South for irrigation, the Rocky Ford Cantaloupe like the Georgia Peach and Peanut, Hawaiian Pineapple, Idaho potato, Napa Valley Wines, New Mexico Peppers deserve an ovation as do New England Blueberries and Cranberries. It remains irrelevant simply because few things can beat out a good Rocky Ford Mellon but Colorado does not have an official state fruit,
