Going purely by academic degrees, there have been several past presidents who had earned a terminal degree of Juris Doctor (a degree held by most lawyers of the present day), but only one had attained a degree where the title of "Doctor" could be conferred. Woodrow Wilson earned a PhD in political science from Johns Hopkins after completing an undergraduate education from Princeton University. He is also considered by many to be the most academic president of all times having served as the president of Princeton University prior to his tenure in the White House.
