Sir Isaac Brock was one of the greatest heroes of the War of 1812. Through his strategic brilliance, Brock was able to defeat the USA in every one of the early battles during the war.

Had Brock not died a valiant hero at Queenston Heights, it is entirely likely that the USA would have been defeated and returned to the British Empire.

In fact, Andrew Jackson did not "win this war". He did win the Battle of New Orleans, but had no effect whatsoever on the outcome of the war, because a peace treaty had already been signed before the battle.

The Battle of New Orleans, incidentally, was followed by a British victory in capturing Fort Bowyer, thereby threatening Mobile.

The brilliant British general Isaac Brock died much earlier, but since the British declined the chance to hold onto American territory they had won, and demonstrated their complete lack of interest in using their victories to undo the American revolution of three decades earlier, there was never any possibility that "we would probably all be under the British Empire today."

The land war produced few American victories, and while the US never broke the economically devastating Royal Navy blockade of American ports, the next most likely American hero might be Oliver Perry, who scored a notable naval victory on Lake Erie.

The Peace Treaty had already been signed in 1814, a couple of weeks before the Battle of New Orleans, and the war would have been over whatever the result.
