Though America tried to stay neutral, President Roosevelt quietly helped by giving supplies to Britain. He was able to give several dated warships in exchange for Britain allowing America to establish bases in British Commonwealth countries. All changed after Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. America declared war on Japan, and Germany declared war on America a few days later.
