I must say that, yes, they're existence has been proven. They are mostly of Arabian/Middle Eastern culture and folklore and they are beings which were created by smokeless fire and often take physical forms as an animal most commonly a black cat. You can hear them speak to you and they also can show up in your dreams. They have free will and can perform good and bad deeds just like a physical earthly human being. Just like in the animated movie Aladdin and the Arabian nights tales, these supernatural beings can be summoned and called to come out of a lamp, jewelry and other belongings.

If a person believes in the existence of angels it is not a significant stretch for the same person to believe in the existence of djinn.

No. The whole story was made up. What was thought of as mystical creatures of great power turned out to be religious furver over common maladies easily explained by science, medicine, modern philosophy, and technology. Concepts of modern religious organizations, often rooted in fear-mongering and societal control, wear these stories (like a genie, or 'jinn') into our primitive instincts like sandpaper, grinding down our own personal growth and intelligence. They force us to accept whatever dogma they want embedded into our spiritual and social evolution to keep the old fears alive, and then tell us they are the key to our salvation. No, the truth is those old stories- and the venues- aren't real.
